Wooden path along a grass and forest line leading towards an unknown location

ETA is a program of recovery, the foundation of which is our twelve steps:

12 Steps

 1. We admitted we were powerless over extreme thinking—that our lives had become less rewarding.

 2. Came to believe that a return to balanced thinking could restore our contentment.

 3. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves, paying particular attention to those instances in which we had blamed others for our misfortunes.

 4. Admitted to ourselves and to a trusted person the exact nature of our wrongs.

 5. Identified those character traits, behaviors and circumstances that had contributed to our extreme thinking and became willing to change them wherever possible.

 6. Identified the core values that we had neglected as a result of our extreme thinking and endeavored to reclaim those values.

 7. Came to believe that we could surrender our extreme thinking and the sense of certainty it once offered—and live a more secure, fulfilling life.

 8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

 9. Made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. Sought to translate our balanced thinking into balanced action, with an emphasis on being of service to those in need.

12. Having had an awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to those seeking relief from extreme thinking, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
